Pickford was started in 1989 by Ron Williamson (1932 – 2018) and was named as such in recognition to his father-in-law Tom Pickford, where Ron began his career in the industry. Tom Pickford (1900 – 1967) began as an importer of wire rope and various drilling related equipment. Ron began his career working for Tom and T.R. Pickford and Company in the 1950’s. The company grew taking on various product lines in the flow control business and soon found that the business had grown to the point of needing to be split. Ron took on some of these product lines directly and formed his first company Wellhead Controls in the late 1950’s.

In 1989 Wellhead Controls was sold and Ron then began The Pickford Group – so named in honor Tom Pickford. Ron’s clear vision and direct management of Pickford grew the company with two distinct divisions – Flow Control and Plant Maintenance Equipment, each having their own unique product lines. These unique product lines provided Pickford with a competitive edge and the company has flourished over the past 30 years. In 2014 Pickford added a new 40,000 sq. ft. distribution facility, including full services and warehousing in Edmonton, Alberta. Today it has the largest inventory selection of exclusive product lines in Western Canada.
